Overcoming Self-Doubt: Trusting Your Intuitive Messages Part 1

I’ve wanted to do a post on self-doubt for quite a while now. And this brought up a lot of self-doubt. This, of course, made me keep putting this off because self-doubt leads to procrastination. As I considered writing about my self-doubts, various thoughts came to me: Will people see me as less credible? Less knowledgeable? Or am I just a plain old fraud? Maybe I’m just making this stuff up. People say that to us intuitives all the time right? I can’t say, “I don’t know” to a client or someone who’s asking for my insight, right? Or can I?
Isn’t it funny how the universe works? Over the month that I’ve been putting this off, the universe kept giving me messages that not only is self-doubt normal, but goes right along with Claircognizance (clear knowing) that I often get most of my messages in. (Claircognizance is when you know that you know, you just don’t know how you know. It’s easy to doubt yourself in these instances.)
It’s also easy to have yourself or others talk you out of it because you don’t have “proof” because there’s no voice, feeling, or vision to support it. Another thing people do is makeup reasons why what they know is not true, real, or necessary. It’s also normal to feel self-doubt when you are putting yourself out there, not just in the intuitive realm, but in anything you are doing that’s new; a new job, a new skill, a new relationship, being a new parent, or a move across the country.
Here’s what I’ve learned over the years. The more “out there” a message is, the more likely it’s something that NEEDS to be said or done. I’ve gotten many off-the-wall things in my readings to people ranging from songs from Gilligan’s Island to Crocodile Boots, and cowboy hats to sassafras root beer. In each instance where I shared the “off the wall” thing, I made a deeper connection with the person I was working with, either with laughter or tears. I discovered that what I shared was something their loved one wore, had, did, or said. At that moment, they knew that I was communicating with their loved one, or that their loved one was trying to give them an important message.
And nothing creates self-doubt like the times when you get it wrong. However, I often find that it’s not wrong in the message I share, but wrong in the translation or interpretation of the message. The spirit can only work within your life experiences or knowledge. For instance, I once connected to a former student who had died by suicide. I kept seeing a football jersey. I got the feeling it was wrong, that he didn’t play football, but I didn’t know why. What I realized later is that since I have little or no knowledge of sports, he sent me the only message I could identify with. Now I realize that, for me, a football jersey means anything that’s a competitive sport, not just football. I’m just more aware now my symbology and can ask better questions in the future. I’ve also made a concerted effort to understand my symbols by writing them down. This makes communication with future spirits easier.
Another reason a client may keep saying, “No your message isn’t right.” is because they may not be looking at it from the same perspective as what you are. My favorite example is when John Holland, a well-known Psychic Medium, is asking this guy about a huge lawn. The guy replies, “No, he doesn’t have a big lawn.” However, after several minutes, we find out that he lives on the back of a golf course. Spirit sees things from a higher perspective, so, don’t let their “no, that’s not right” throw you off. Sometimes people get the message after their session is over. Sometimes, they aren’t ready to hear the message, or it’s a translation issue I mentioned earlier. And sometimes, the message is really for you.
Regardless of whether or not they get the message, the important thing is that you give it honestly. Tell the person whose message it is, exactly what you saw, heard, felt, etc. It’s easy to forget when the person in front of you isn’t validating what you’re getting but remember that they may have a different interpretation of what you saw than you do. Next time this happens ask yourself, out of the millions of possibilities, why did you get that one?
Anyone can do these things by themselves, but sometimes we like to practice with others like us. I will be running a Clairs Class at AIMS on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:00 on the Greeley Campus from April 3rd - May 8th, 2023, and on the Loveland Campus from June 05 - July 17th on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30.
I would love it if you would share with the group things that have worked for you, being supportive of each other and cheering each other on. Note: The comments section is at the bottom of this page.
Until next time…
